Why Becoming A CPA
To be fully motivated to study for the CPA exam and become a CPA, you need to know your "why".
CPA exam is one of the most difficult professional exams. There are four main parts (plus an ethics part in some states); and the exam requires hundreds of study hours. Determining to become a CPA is a big decision. This blog post is to help you find your "why".
1. Income potential
CPAs usually make more money than non-CPAs given the same position and the same amount of experience. CPAs will have higher chance for promotion. Some management positions require the job candidates to have CPA credential to be considered.
2. Job security
Many positions show "CPA a plus' or CPA preferred" in the job descriptions. Employers believe that people who have passed the CPA exam would be more knowledgeable and more insightful in the job matters. Having the CPA license will help put yourself in a better and more advantageous position compared to other candidates.
3. Get to know more in accounting
To pass the CPA exam, you would need to study for hundreds of hours, understand most, if not all, of the accounting concepts and have solved a lot of practice questions. During the process, you will for sure learn more about different accounting concepts and have a better idea of how to handle different accounting problems.
4. Self fulfillment
It is hard to become a CPA. It takes a lot of time, energy and persistence. Some people take several months to pass the exam while other take a few years to finally achieve the goal. I'm not trying to say people who pass the exam in a short period of time are better or smarter. I'm just saying how long it takes to pass the exam really depends on the individual's situation. Many of us have challenges. Some people have family obligations; some people need to work full-time or even over-time while studying; some people have already left school for a while so it becomes tougher for them to pick up the study materials again. Just because we all face all kinds of challenges in the course of becoming a CPA, we should all feel proud and feel accomplished when we pass the exam. To be honest, passing the CPA exam is one of the biggest accomplishments I feel I have ever had.
5. Respect from the society
Like doctors, lawyers, or any professional titles, CPA is one of the most respectful professional titles in the society. Whether you want to make your mom proud or want to look good in the high school reunion, being a CPA is way to go!
